Award-winning Tlingit artist and carver James Johnson was born and raised in Juneau, Alaska. His work is grounded in Tlingit formline, a visual language that carries stories of lineage, identity, and culture across generations.
For our latest collaboration, James brings his Eagle design to a plush throw blanket and kitchen towel. Eagle is one of the two principal Tlingit clans, alongside Raven. As an Eagle himself, the piece holds a personal connection to his lineage and honors the ancestors whose work continues to guide his practice.
Originally created as a hand-drawn formline composition and later carved into an Eagle panel, the design reflects James’ dedication to preserving and carrying Tlingit tradition forward. The original panel was also exhibited at the Museum of Art in Fort Collins, Colorado.
For James, the work is an ongoing practice of learning, honoring, and carrying culture forward.
