Our Story

Where it all began

Slowtide began in 2015, shaped by three founders and the coastlines they called home. Dario Phillips brought his roots in Canada and a perspective shaped by the rugged West Coast of Vancouver Island. Wylie Von Tempsky and Kyle Spencer brought a deep connection to Hawaiʻi and California. Different landscapes, different conditions, one shared feeling: the things we brought to the water could be better.

The towels were uninspired. The quality fell short. So we set out to make our own. What started with a better towel grew into a collection of art-driven textiles for the beach, the outdoors, and the home. The warmth of Hawaiʻi and California still runs through the brand, alongside the wilder side of the Pacific Northwest, where cold water, changing weather, and time outside are part of everyday life.

That mix continues to shape what we make and how we see the world.

Shaped By The West Coast

Canada has always been part of the Slowtide story. On the West Coast of Vancouver Island, the weather rarely follows a script. The water is cold, the coastline is rugged, and getting outside means being ready for whatever the day brings. That perspective has helped shape our approach to outdoor essentials, from changing ponchos to parkas and blankets made for time spent outside. We believe the things you reach for after a surf, on a rainy afternoon, or at the end of a long day deserve as much thought as the experience itself. It's a point of view that stays with us, wherever we go.

We believe everyday objects can hold a little more meaning.

Through collaborations with artists, photographers, musicians, and designers, we bring original artwork and considered details to the textiles we use every day. Each collection starts with a creative point of view, bringing together art, texture, colour, and function.

The result is a growing collection of pieces that feel personal, become part of our routines, and travel with us from one place to the next.
