Our Story

Where it all began

Slowtide started in 2015, born between California, Hawaiʻi, and the West Coast of Vancouver Island. After long days spent in and around the water, founders Wylie Von Tempsky, Kyle Spencer, and Dario Phillips began to feel the towels they were using could be better. The design felt generic. The quality fell short. So, they started making their own.

What began as a better towel quickly became something more.

From the beginning, Slowtide has been shaped by two very different coastlines. While Hawaiʻi and California inspired a life centered around warm water and surf culture, the West Coast of Vancouver Island brought a colder, more rugged perspective to the brand. It's where Dario built his career in surf and action sports, and where many of our ponchos and parkas continue to be designed and tested for people who don't wait for sunshine.

Today, we create thoughtfully designed essentials for people who live close to the water, wherever that is, whatever the conditions.

Always Evolving

Slowtide began with a simple observation: the products we relied on every day deserved more thought.

Founded in 2015 by friends from Hawaiʻi, California, and West Coast of Vancouver island, the brand was shaped by very different experiences on the water. Some days meant warm tropical surf. Others meant cold Pacific swells, changing weather, and long sessions on the beaches of Vancouver Island.

Those places had one thing in common. The products waiting on shore never felt as thoughtfully designed as the adventures they followed.

So we started making our own.

What began as a better towel became a collection of everyday essentials inspired by art, built for life outdoors, and tested wherever the forecast leads.
